Former Religious Affiliation: None, Wicca
About Me: When I was a kid, I didn’t know what atheism was. But I did know that this figure some folks called God really didn’t make any logical sense to me. If it couldn’t make sense to me as a child, there was no way it would ever work for me as an adult. Yet it wasn’t until adulthood that I finally claimed the title of “atheist”. What brought about this enlightenment was my realization that even if a god did exist, it would be so utterly uninterested in the affairs of our world that to presume otherwise would be incredibly arrogant and egotistical on my part. So it became official: I was an atheist.
Though an atheist, I’m still absolutely fascinated by religion. I’ve always wanted to understand how and why people could be religious. When I couldn’t get accepted in the Church or Synagogue, I decided to study on my own terms. At twelve years old, that was the best decision I ever made in my youth. I went on to get a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies and today I write for a skeptic blog called skepticfreethought.com.
Today, I continue to study the religions of the world and how they continue to influence the world in which we live. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually drawing or riding my bike. Being an atheist doesn’t mean I can’t relax and have a good time!Tagged with: 1974 • Astrid Lydia Johansen • Atheist • Oregon • skepticfreethought • Wicca
