Help My Daughter Tell Her Father Goodbye

At Skepticon 7 in Springfield, MO Clary Rhyne came by the We Are Atheism table to see what we were all about. After hearing that we have a philanthropic extension that helps in “unforeseeable circumstances” she told us about how her daughter’s father had recently passed away but she had no way of getting her to the funeral. So, after filling out the Atheists Giving Aid application for Aid we called others to verify her story as well as talk to her daughter. We approved a $200 grant to help Clary with gas and food along the way. She knows that without the kind help from...

Sherry Mitchell- Invest In Life

Update: Together we raised $347 to help Sherry gain access to the MRI she so desperately needed. After getting the procedure the doctors determined it was not necessary to operate to remove the tumor yet. She is still struggling with chronic migraines and all over pain due to the tumor still being present. Help her keep her hope up by sending her some kind words by either commenting here or emailing us and we’ll pass it along to her.  “My name is Sherry and I am 42 and single. Teresa Mitchell thanks Atheists Giving Aid

Dear Atheist’s Giving Aid, I am one of the “long term unemployed.” I lost my job in March 2013 and began receiving Unemployment Compensation in May 2013. I had been working steadily since I was 17 years old. I am now 45. I suffer from several chronic health conditions which leave me in constant pain. Even so, I diligently began a job search, to little avail. I suddenly found myself either over-qualified or under-qualified for many jobs. I put in over 200 applications/resumes and received only two interviews. I couldn’t even get work in fast food! Dec. 28, 2013 the...

A Couple left destitute after Identity Theft

A couple had their identity stolen and were about to loose their house due to not having the money they had saved up in order to buy a new car.  $10,000 is a lot of money for someone to steal from you.  Amanda Brown happened to be talking to this couple while at an atheist group hangout at a restaurant. After finding this out she asked the board of directors if we could help alleviate the stress of this situation financially as well as help them get the person who did this caught and punished for hurting someone in the hardest way possible. Atheists Giving Aid gave this couple $6,000* to...

A Homeless Family in Need

Nelly and Demetrius fell on hard times.  Demetrius had recently found a job but was then laid off due to cut backs at his place of employment.  With no savings and no way to pay the bills Nelly, Demetrius, and their son were forced to live in their car and put their stuff into storage (well the things they couldn’t sell off).  A friend offered to take care of their things for them in their garage and Demetrius set out to find a job and a place to live to support their disabled child as well as his disabled wife Nelly.  Nelly suffers from fibromyalgia and arthritis in her spine, knees,...
