Atheists Giving Aid – Sandy Hook Fundraiser

We Are Atheism, SOMA (Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics), and American Atheists are proud to inform you that our Sandy Hook Elementary School Fundraiser has finally come to end.  We had over 1,000 people from around the country donate nearly $28,000. As promised, your money was split evenly between three of the non-profit organizations that are giving direct aid and scholarship funds.  We donated nearly $9,000 to the Newtown Memorial Fund.  This fund will go to the physical memorial being built, provide for the immediate assistance for ongoing needs of those affected by the...

History’s Greatest Hoax: Jesus the mything person

Another guest post by Dan Hettmannsperger III  We are all familiar with the story of Jesus as we are familiar with the story of King Arthur, Superman and Frodo Baggins.  What makes the story of Jesus problematic is that Christians have made the supreme error of confusing allegory with historical reality and thinking they are the same thing.  Of course we all know that Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried and ultimately executed for being a tax-dodger and claiming to be a monarch (Luke 23:2), although He fudges that a little when he says “my Kingdom is not of this world” (John...

Goodbye Pope Benedict XVI

As I sit here watching Pope Benedict XVI resign from his position as pope due to what looks like severe medical problems.  His severely ravaged body, the meek and nearly dead looking pope, gives his final remarks to a small crowd of maybe 1,000-2,000 people.  I can’t help but think that this is the best decision I have ever seen a pope make.  He looks like he is suffering from many different illnesses that plague an elderly body and his state of mind is obviously beginning to become compromised. His short speech to the crowd who came out from around the world to see and hear his...

Child gets suspended for being an atheist

Kindergartner Stands Up to Bully Special Thanks to Atheism Resource   The following story is based on a TRUE event.  The names of the people involved have been changed to protect their identity.  YES… THIS IS 100% TRUE. This happened to the 6 year old son of a friend of mine today (we’ll call him Zach): “So this kid was discussing Jesus to my son at school. Zach told him that he didn’t believe in God. The boy told him the story about Jesus dying and coming back to life. Zach’s response? ‘Jesus is a zombie!?!?’ And the boy went further saying that...
