We don’t get the luxury of planning for when tragedies strike. They don’t take turns. This comes right after the bombing in Boston… but these folks need help too. Texas is a resilient state with wonderful people. The people of West, Texas near the Waco area didn’t expect what happened to them. Now, a town will try to rebuild, heal the wounds (physical and mental), and help those that are now stuck with finding a place to live and covering medical bills that they might not have insurance for. Put yourself in their shoes… what would you do?
I can do that. I was just there last month. I stopped in a nice gas station on my way to Austin, met some locals, and even bought a fajita from behind the counter. It was the best meal I had on my road trip. Now, I’m haunted by the idea that some of those fine people I met for that 30 minutes might be dead or severely injured. I picture those friendly people standing outside of their home that got blown away. I’m lucky… I don’t live there. But, this could happen to any of us where we live. We all have factories close by that could have a disaster like this. We’d all hope kind people would step up and give what they can.
This is your chance. Whether it’s $1.00 or $1,000.00, please give what you can. We will work with local groups to distribute this money as directly to the families affected as possible. You can rest assured that when you give “Atheists Giving Aid” your money, it is going to a secular, completely non-religious source. Any group we give the money to at the end of May will have to abide by those same standards.
We aren’t preachy in what we do. We don’t send “atheist literature” with the help. Other than the checks saying “We Are Atheism”, there is NO message attached. We help to help. That’s it. But, if at the same time, this helps change the face of atheism… if one person says, “Wow, atheists sent me this money?“… then we think that’s a win-win situation. Please give what you can, SHARE this page, and send this to your local news agencies so they can see what we are doing.
