Goodbye Pope Benedict XVI

As I sit here watching Pope Benedict XVI resign from his position as pope due to what looks like severe medical problems.  His severely ravaged body, the meek and nearly dead looking pope, gives his final remarks to a small crowd of maybe 1,000-2,000 people.  I can’t help but think that this is the best decision I have ever seen a pope make.  He looks like he is suffering from many different illnesses that plague an elderly body and his state of mind is obviously beginning to become compromised.

His short speech to the crowd who came out from around the world to see and hear his last speech as pope must have been severely disappointed. He gave a 2 min speech thanking everyone for showing up, worshipping him as pope, and he hopes the new pope will do a good job. He just turned and walked away as if this was not the big deal that it really was.

I know everyone has an opinion on the pope and what he is doing by stepping down.  Saying that it proves there is no god when the only person who was supposed to have a direct line to the deity no longer wants that job.  He covered up hundreds of pedophiles within the catholic church and helped those offenders molest and rape more and more children by moving them around the country.  I’m happy he is leaving but we have to give him credit for the one good thing he did as pope: Condoms came back to Africa.  So I guess god is ok with the molestation of children but not ok with letting a virus run rampent in a country he has let run rampent for 30+ years.

Goodbye Pope Benedict XVI, you have given so much over the past few years.  The memes, the jokes, the easy to combat puritanical views on sex, your idiotic stance on same-sex marriage, your inability to see and understand the scientific method when it came to YOUR religion, and for being the voice of irrationality when your followers wanted answers. Your reign has been great and your replacement should be excited to try to clean up the mess that is the catholic church and its policies.

a lot of us don’t care for smae sex marriages. A woman in britian want sot marry herself, which make sa bout as much sense. Some guy want sot marry his car,. a hooker wants ot marry crack dope. All this will eventually become possible if they claim religious reasons.

        Ron,

That is absolutely ridiculous. Same-sex marriage will not lead to inanimate object marriage or animal marriage. That is an absurd claim. Same-sex marriage is not based on religious reasons, it is based on the fact that love is universal and shouldn’t be limited to legitimacy by the courts to only one man and one woman. Marriage is a contract. It is a piece of paper that the government recognizes for 1100+ benefits and losses. Being married to someone allows so many benefits that those who are straight/hetero don’t realize majority of the time. Funeral plans, Social security benefits, medical decisions for the partner, entrance into hospital room, medical record release, inheritance, and so much more. It is ignorant of you to think that somehow we will jump from one thing to another in such an extreme way.

But honestly, what would be so bad about someone marrying an inanimate object or a plant or another animal species if it makes them happy? Aren’t we all on a pursuit towards happiness and don’t we all just want to be loved and feel loved by someone/something? What is so wrong with letting people be happy how they want to as long as it doesn’t harm themselves or others? Although that would lead into the definition of what is “harm”? But I digress…

The point is: Don’t be a douche and let people live how they want to live. Same-sex marriage isn’t going to end the world. If anything, it will help stimulate and boost the economy as well as increase happiness and lower depression amongst homosexual individuals that want this form of equality. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

We may like him or not, we may agree or disagree with Pope Benedict’s views, but I believe we must admire a decision that places the best interest of the Catholic Church above his own prestige.
